pioneer_RM-07Pioneer DJ Launches the RM Series of Professional Studio Monitors with HD Coaxial Driver Units

The Pioneer RM-07 coaxial active reference monitor speakers deliver accurate monitoring of source material using advanced technologies developed to ensure clear separation across the frequency spectrum at high SPL – with a clean, neutral sound – could the RM-07 be the perfect near-field monitoring solution for dance music producers

The RM-07 utilises a co-axial driver system developed by Pioneer’s pro audio TAD Labs division. Pioneer have chosen a co-axial design to supply precision sound to producers and audio engineers – the woofer and tweeter emanate from the same point improving the accuracy of the audio reproduction. Grooved ducts in the bass reflex system combine with the aramid fibre woofers to ensure a clean, clear low-end performance. High frequencies are handled by an aluminium hard dome tweeter, which has been optimised to produce frequencies of up to 50 kHz.

Pioneer’s RM-07 is manufactured to an incredibly high standard for this price point with a rigid die-cast aluminium cabinet which not only sounds superb but has looks to match. The curved contours on show are far more than a neat cosmetic touch – they eliminate resonance and, when coupled with a proprietary acoustic tube (deployed to reduce standing waves), guarantee accuracy in the quality of the low to mid range reproduction. To assist monitor placement the speakers also provide three-band EQ and careful design consideration has included additional flexibility thanks to the enhanced connectivity offered by multiple inputs.

The bi-amplified 07 features 150 watts of power split with 50 watts delivered to high frequencies and 100 watts to the lows, providing a frequency response of 40 Hz to 50kHz using a 6.5 inch woofer. Maximum SPL is quoted at 109 dB SPL (peak @ 1 m) making the RM-07 perfect for medium sized studios whether professional or project focussed.

The main features of the Pioneer RM-07 include:

  1. HD coaxial driver unit for accurate point source monitoring and sound isolation Adopting a HD-coaxial driver unit from Pioneer’s TAD Labs division provides same axis placement of the woofer and tweeter ensuring a truer reproduction throughout the frequency range. The development of a new waveguide effectively minimises interference between the drivers to produce a neutral sound which also offers excellent isolation. The true sound of the RM-07 makes it perfect for near-field monitoring tasks no matter the source material.
  2. 50 kHz tweeter for precise, high frequencies The unique 1.6-inch hard dome aluminium tweeters have been designed using technology developed purposely by Pioneer for added frequency response. Thanks to carefully selected materials and the diaphragm’s shape the high frequency output of the unit has been optimised to provide a precise reproduction up to 50 kHz.
  3. Front-loaded bass reflex system with grooves for a smooth, strong bass The RM-05 features an aramid fibre woofer to provide a robust low-end response. Plus the front-loaded bass reflex design and innovative grooves on the bass ducts reduce air friction, even when the speakers are positioned right against the wall.
  4. Rigid die-cast aluminium cabinet with curved contours for superb sound clarity Manufactured using die-cast aluminium for maximum rigidity while providing reduced resonance across the volume curve the RM-07 cabinet uses curved surfaces to reduce external diffraction – the sleek lines are a pleasant by product of this audio tuning.
  5. AFAST acoustic tube reduces standing waves for stronger low-mid frequencies Using a patented Pioneer technology – AFAST – to drastically reduce standing waves that contribute to a muffled response in the low to mid ranges enables the RM-07 to deliver an incredibly transparent sound. An acoustic tube in the cabinet absorbs just the standing waves, ensuring true reproduction of low to mid frequencies.
  6. Low/Mid/High EQ settings for added flexibility and control  A three-band EQ (Low/Mid/High) gives producers the option to tailor the monitor speakers’ sound or audition tracks for certain scenarios and has four pre-sets for each band.
  7. Other features
  1. Custom-designed Class AB bi-amps ensure balance across the frequencies
  2. Exclusive toroidal transformer power source for excellent S/N ratio and no distortion
  3. Clip indicator to protect the unit from excessive input
  4. Wide range of inputs (XLR and RCA)
  5. Auto standby On/Off function
